So just as the March rain was starting to get to me (although it was still snowing hard in the mountains so I was still smiling) myself and three girlfriends took five days and went to Sonoma to go wine trekking. What is wine trekking you ask? Well it's walking between vineyards and tasting a lot of yummy wine. I've done a lot of wine testing over the years in many different countries by car, driver, or bicycle but never by trekking. I thought I knew a little about wine but this trip made me realize I really knew nothing except what I like and what I don't like (which is really all that counts)!
Yes, I’m a naturopath and I drink wine, but if the truth be known I prefer tequila and vodka.
These are girlfriends that I’ve had since I was very young and although we do keep in contact with each other I really hadn't spent more time with them than the odd evening or dinner in a very long time. Our lives have all changed incredibly since we met but what was so wonderful was that we fell back into a rhythm of ease in just hanging out like we were back in highschool. Twenty four hours a day for the five days. We all quickly forgot our woes of daily life and relaxed into a great holiday together that had a focus of walking and drinking wine. The conversation was not of the past but more of the future which was also refreshing. I returned home feeling so lucky to have “my girls” and realized how important it is to have a strong female presence in your life.
Sorry boys, you have your role in our lives as well but we still need our girl time.
So why am I telling you this????? Because it was an excellent adventure that I would recommend to anyone, couples and friends alike. And because sometimes we all just need a time out and that's OK and needs to be honoured. Thirdly, there are some really good wines in Sonoma.
CHEERS.
